In short: the app collects no personal data and sends nothing anywhere. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your notes, your translation and the PDFs you import stay on your device. This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics.
The app
What we collect
Nothing. Hermeneus does not collect, store on our behalf, sell or share any information about you or how you use it. It contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking code of its own, and no third-party code that does.
No accounts
You never sign in. If you create a local profile, it is a name and a few reading preferences (which text to read first, the English beside it, a theme and a text size), saved on your device only. You can leave the name blank.
Your files stay on your device
Your notes, your translation, your settings and every PDF you import are stored in the app’s own storage on your device. OCR of scanned pages is done on the device. None of it is uploaded, and we cannot see it.
Your device may include the app’s files in its own backups (for example iCloud Backup, or a backup to your computer). Those backups are made and kept by Apple and by you, under your device settings and Apple’s privacy policy; we have no access to them. Deleting the app deletes its files from the device.
No network connections
The app works offline. It makes no internet connections of its own: its reader talks only to a small server inside the app, on the device itself. The only web links in the app are the licence links on its Credits page, which open in your browser if you tap them; what happens then is governed by those websites.
Apple
Apple handles App Store downloads and updates. If you have chosen in your device’s settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics for the app through App Store Connect. These do not identify you, we do not combine them with anything, and you can turn this off in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Analytics & Improvements.
Children
Because the app collects no data from anyone, it collects none from children.
This website
hermeneus.app is a set of plain web pages. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics, advertising or tracking, runs no scripts, and loads nothing from other websites (its fonts and images are served from the site itself).
Like any website, the company that hosts it receives the technical information every browser sends when it asks for a page, such as your IP address and browser type, and may keep it briefly in its logs to run and protect the service. We do not use those logs to identify or follow anyone.
If you email us
If you write to support@hermeneus.app, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message. We use it only to answer you, and we do not add you to any list or share your message. You can ask us to delete your correspondence at any time.
Changes
If Hermeneus ever adds a feature that sends anything off your device (for example an optional connector), it will be off unless you turn it on, and this policy will be updated before that feature is released, with a new effective date at the top of this page.
